Magento CRON Setup in cPanel

If you’re running cPanel on your server and want to add in the Magento CRON (as most of you would) this is how to do it.

  1. Login to cPanel
  2. Goto the “CRON” section.
  3. Once in the CRON section, there are two ways of running the CRON file. If you know the path of php on the server, your setting can look like:

or, if you don’t, your settings can look like (both have the same effect, only one is needed):

  4. In the time settings please select a schedule that is right for you, in the examples above I have select the CRON to run every 5 minutes.

Setting up the CRON has many benefits to your Magento Store, such as:

  • Cleaning and Adding Catalog Price Rules.
  • Automated Generation of Sitemaps.
  • Mailing of Customer Alert Notifications.
  • Automated Sending of Newsletters and Emails.
  • Downloading of and update of Currency Exchange Rates.
  • Automated Log and Database log cleanups.
